Built as the Central Railway Station part of which was converted in 1873 into the Central Hall by J Cowl. In 1932 a new front was added along with new internal decoration and it was renamed the Central Cinema.

Damaged by fire in 1946 it remained closed until c1953 because building materials were rationed and Thompson's adjoining Regent carried on. When it reopened it had Cinemascope.
Fate of the Cinema:
It closed on 23rd July 1964 along with adjoining Regent having ceased to be profitable. It was subsequently demolished.
