Fate of the Cinema:
It was closed in 1960 but was still owned by Thompson companies in 1962. The Empire was then closed and later was taken by Malcolm Ross of Whitby with 540 seats and re-opened. Subsequently closed and used for storage. Still derelict in 2009.
